An extremely high-standard typical benchmark quality Edwardian oak frame but the difference with this particular frame is that the gilt gesso slip, which in itself is most impressive & is entirely original to the frame, swivels, I'm not entirely sure why but it does this but this entails, indeed facilitates the changing of the angle of the picture held within The slip is pinned on two sides by a nail & which means that the central image can be moved, I don't believe it was ever fixed in place permanently as there are no holes on the inner sides of the slip, & it's a well-ordered smooth action, I can only assume that this was the original intention of the designer/Framemaker What remains hitherto although a bit of a mystery as to why it is designed this way, makes for a strange & probably quite rare frame design that allows the freedom to angle the picture or photo in any direction you wish, please see ALL of the photos.
