The cabinet shop used great layout of the heavy flake tiger grain achieving a nice visual effect on the front face. The drawers retain their original locks & brass escutcheons. What we find rather unusual about this sideboard is the construction techniques used. On most similar examples the mirror is screwed on and off as a separate piece.
If you look closely at the side profile you can see the mirror is built into the entire back board and back legs of the cabinet. This would have been much harder to do opposed to a separate gallery that simply attaches with screws.
The gallery and front posts are decorated with a facet cut terminating in a beautiful end grain. The gallery has decorative shaped spandrels adding to the congruity and design.
This sideboard has a wonderful piece of old beveled mirrored glass we chose to leave unedited to show the truest representation. There is a remnant of an old round label on the backboard we had trouble reading. We believe this was made in New York or possibly out near Grand Rapids.
